Must-Have Travel Gear for Every Man's Backpack

When going on a trip, it’s important for men to pack their backpacks with the essentials. Here’s a handy list of travel must-haves for men who love backpacking around the world.

First off, picking the right luggage is crucial. Many experienced travelers now prefer small suitcases because they’re easy to handle in busy airports, fit well in overhead compartments, and are perfect for short trips or when packing light. Plus, they’re stylish and make accessing your belongings a breeze.

As for clothing, start with a thermal, long-sleeve shirt as your base layer. It’s great on its own for cooler weather, or you can layer it with a jacket or fleece sweater in really cold climates.

Pack a tight-fitting fleece to wear over your base layer for added warmth. A lightweight, waterproof, and windproof hooded jacket is also a must. It’ll keep you dry in the rain and can be easily stored in your backpack.

Bring at least two dark-colored cotton shirts for travel during summer. They don’t show stains easily and won’t need frequent replacing. Also pack quick-drying shirts if you’re heading to a humid area, as they dry quickly.

Don’t forget a collared, buttoned shirt for dressing up or visiting conservative areas. Choose long sleeves for cold places and short sleeves for warmer climates.

Make sure to pack adequate bottom clothing, including a thermal base layer of pants for cold regions. They don’t take up much space and are great to have just in case.

Pack hiking pants even if you’re not planning to hike; they’re comfortable for city exploring and dry quickly. Also, bring a pair with side pockets if you do plan to hike.

Dress pants are nice to have for dinner dates or nights out, and bring regular shorts for exploring the city. Opt for comfortable ones.

Don’t forget your underwear, and quick-drying ones are particularly useful. Pack socks too—thick ones for cold weather and thin, quick-drying ones for warmer climates. For shoes, choose a comfortable pair for walking. Flip-flops are handy for giving your feet a break and can be purchased cheaply at your destination.

Leave space in your backpack for hygiene products, especially when traveling abroad. Your toiletry bag should include a travel toothbrush, a small tube of toothpaste, a small bottle of shampoo, a small bar of soap and soapbox, and deodorant. Flushable wipes like DUDE Wipes are great for staying clean.

If you’re heading to sunny places, bring sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays. Pack a small razor too.
