It’s 2018… can you believe it? Where did 2017 even go? Every year seems to fly by faster. I’m only 30, so I hope this trend doesn’t continue at the same rate! Anyway, let’s talk about goals.
Raise your hand if you’re already feeling challenged by your 2018 goals. It’s totally fine! This happens to everyone. We set goals with good intentions but sometimes don’t do the necessary prep work to set ourselves up for success.
Good news: this is an easy fix! Here are three simple ways to get back on track and smash your 2018 goals.
First, if you haven’t already, grab that cute, sparkly notebook you got from Target (even though everything isn’t just $1 anymore) and list at least three things you want to accomplish this year. Think about health (physical, mental, spiritual), organization, finances, home improvement, professional development, relationships, and so on.
If you can’t think of anything to improve, ask some trusted friends for their input. Self-improvement involves seeing both your strengths and weaknesses.
Next, make your goals specific and actionable. For example, last year I aimed to lose 20 pounds but only had a vague plan like “eat healthier.” No wonder I gained seven pounds instead! This year, I’m approaching it with clear, measurable steps:
1. Attend five fitness classes per week with no excuses. I recommend starting with something like Zumba; it’s a fun way to get into fitness.
2. Meal prep for four weeks each month. This means most weeks, I’ll prepare meals for six days. It helps me make better choices, saves money, and frees up time.
3. Share my progress on Facebook so my friends can cheer me on and offer support. According to research, sharing your goals makes you more likely to achieve them.
Finally, accountability is crucial. For instance, after a stressful Thursday at work, I wanted to skip my Barre class for margaritas and chips. Thankfully, my friends kept me on track, and I hit my five-class goal for the first week of 2018.
Posting progress on Facebook is great for motivation, but for accountability, choose friends who won’t hesitate to call you out when you need it.
We at DIY Active want to help you achieve your goals this year. What are some of your goals? Is there any topic you’d like us to cover or fitness products you want us to review in 2018?
We appreciate your support and look forward to helping you conquer your 2018 goals!
