Prioritize Time for Yourself

Whether you’re juggling a hectic job or managing a busy household, everyone needs some “me” time to unwind and refocus. Andie shares how she discovered her “me” time and how it’s positively impacted her life.

Do you ever wake up feeling completely drained, only to face a barrage of demands before 7 AM? “Mom, where are my shoes?” (They’re by the door where you left them.) “Mom, what’s for breakfast?” (You can pour yourself some cereal.) “Honey, did you iron my shirt?” (Yes, it’s in the closet, or no, but the iron is there too.)

Some days, I just want to stay in bed with a good book and some chocolate. No judgment! Seriously, it can take a lot of courage to get out of bed and tackle the day.

However, over the past year, I’ve made small changes that have really helped. Now, I wake up ready to face my days with energy and enthusiasm, not feeling beaten down. Finding work-life balance by putting myself first has made me a happier and prouder person.

Taking care of yourself is important because it allows you to be more balanced and better equipped to care for those who need you. We often give so much without asking for much in return. Focusing on ourselves helps reset the balance in our lives. Initially, I felt guilty about taking time for myself, but I realized it was necessary to avoid feeling constantly overwhelmed.

Discover what makes you feel like yourself—not just as a mom, employee, boss, or spouse. For me, working out every morning offers the balance I need. The drive to and from the gym gives me quiet time to think. At the gym, with earbuds in, I work out my frustrations. This alone time provides me with the peace and energy to conquer the day.

Missing my morning workout leaves me feeling off. This daily routine has made a significant difference in my life. You might think it’s crazy to wake up early for the gym, and that’s okay! The key is to find what makes you happy and refreshed. Whether it’s a nap, reading, or a solo walk, cherish those moments alone. They are as valuable as the precious times when your kids are being lovable.
