Energizing Outdoor Workouts to Revitalize Your Routine

What are the best outdoor workouts? Simply put, they’re the ones that get you outside, active, and enjoying nature. As the weather warms up, let’s make it a habit to get outdoors every day!

Spring is almost here, with its warmer and brighter days. Personally, my mood always improves in the spring. Seasonal affective disorder is real!

With the warmer temperatures, why not move your workouts outside for a fun energy boost? Here are some ideas to help you enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Instead of using the indoor elliptical, hop on a bike and explore. I’m lucky enough to live near a greenline where I can ride for miles. Biking outside, whether alone or with friends, is a fantastic stress reliever. Once, I was so captivated by the scenery that I didn’t realize how far I’d biked. The ride back was much longer than anticipated, haha! Biking lets you control your speed and intensity, whether you want a leisurely ride or a more intense session.

Running is one of my favorite outdoor activities, especially on the beach where the wind keeps you cool. But you don’t need a beach to enjoy running outside. It’s easier to set a goal and run towards it outside than to jog in place on a treadmill. Running outdoors is equipment-free and always a favorite workout of mine!

Swimming is another fantastic summer activity. Did you know you can burn up to 585 calories per hour with just a simple breaststroke? On a hot day, a refreshing swim makes the workout feel like fun rather than exercise.

I’m not the best basketball player, but I enjoy shooting hoops or playing a game of CAT. If I miss a shot, it just means more running to retrieve the ball. Find a local basketball court and have fun burning off some energy!

Many gym exercises can be done with park equipment. Think push-ups or step-ups on a bench, or pull-ups on monkey bars or a sturdy tree branch. Add in jump rope for a well-rounded workout with a beautiful backdrop.

For a less intense option, walking or hiking is a great stress reliever. Take your dog for a walk or visit a local dog park. It’s good exercise for both of you! Hiking with friends who have pets can also be a fun group activity.

Grab a friend and play tennis, which is a full-body workout that improves cardiovascular health and strengthens your muscles. Plus, it gives your mind a good workout too!

Canoeing and kayaking can be some of the most challenging outdoor workouts, depending on the water conditions. You can’t predict whether the water will be calm or choppy, which adds to the fun.

Working out outdoors always gives me a much-needed energy boost, especially after a long day indoors. Evening workouts are my usual choice, but morning workouts in the fresh air are a perfect way to start the day.

Try these outdoor workouts to get more fresh air and improve your health! I’d love to hear about your favorite outdoor activities.
