Do you ever feel like you spent an hour at the gym but didn’t really push yourself? It’s probably because you were multitasking during your workout. Whether it’s texting, changing your music, or chatting, these distractions can ruin your workout before you even start.

Even if you think you’re putting in the time, you might just be wasting it. To get the most out of your workout, stop multitasking. If you must multitask, do so by incorporating supersets with minimal rest between exercises.

Distractions can prevent you from toning muscle and burning calories because they allow your heart rate to drop back to its resting state. Always ensure to get medical clearance before starting any intense workout. To maximize your results, keep your heart rate elevated throughout your session. This leads to the afterburn effect, also known as EPOC, which helps you burn more calories even after your workout ends.

Efficiency is key. Instead of spending hours on a less effective workout, aim for a focused 20-minute session. You’ll save time and be more likely to stick with your routine. Shorter, effective workouts can keep you motivated and produce real results.

Next time you’re working out at home, try leaving your phone in another room and turning on the radio. Dedicate 20 minutes to an intense, distraction-free workout. If that’s too hard, choose a playlist and stick to it without constantly reaching for your phone.

Give it your all without distractions. Once you’re done, you can check your phone and share your workout on social media. But that workout time should be just for you—an opportunity to focus solely on your movements, your body, and the feeling of getting stronger. Use this time to truly concentrate on yourself.
